MONDAY- October 5
Mountain Day- we learned how mountains are formed and the different types of mountains. Also we learned that the temple is the mountain of the Lord and talked about scripture stories that talked about prophets talking with the Lord on mountains.
Benson began letter K, we did a kingly march making letter k with our stiff bodies to the Grieg song, Hall of the Mountain King. We talked about words that start with K including "kiss". Ally loaned him some red lipstick and he had fun putting it on and kissing the letter K to make lipstick marks all over.
We read Katy No Pocket and picked out words with big and little k on lots of pages.
Sam reviewed mental math adding strategies.
We all danced to "She'll be coming round the Mountain" song.
Ally did grand finale of Long Walk to Water, we discussed juxtaposition and how author used it to make a better story. Then she did a writing assignment and found evidence of survival characteristics and wrote about one example in book where he used that characteristic to survive.

South America landing!
We learned about special adjectives called "superlatives" and how they are used. We read the silly book "Pig, pigger, piggest" and then made up our own superlative sentences. They wrote their own "amazon" reviews for a product trying to use as many superlatives as possible, then we learned about South American and nine superlatives that go with it...
]largest- river system in the world.
longest- river in South America (amazon) and 2nd longest in world, tied with Nile/
highest- lake Titicaca (which they loved giggling while saying the name of) in the Andes
tallest- waterfall 900+ feet long drop!
widest- waterfalls Iguazu Falls in Brazil
greatest- freshwater dump into the ocean (from Amazon) So much water!
It was a fun lesson and beautiful to learn about these hydrosphere elements of South America.
Sam learned different ways to tell read clocks (quarter past, half past, quarter to...)
Benson learned K is for Kit Kat and made Ks out of the candy.

THURSDAY- October 8
Guest Speaker, Lelia Rosado sister missionary serving in our ward, originally from Ecuador. Taught the kids about her country. Four areas including Amazon, Galapago, coast, and Sierra (mountain). Taught about Children's Day June 1st, fun Muneca New Years tradition, and quincanera birthday. She showed them "silencio" a hand clapping game and describe two tag like games, one called "bella" or candle where when one is tagged they start to melt to the ground and someone has to un-tag them before they fall all the way to the ground. She told about the stray dogs and cats everywhere, the temple in guayacil, she showed us the Salsa and a video of famous pan flute player playing Condor Pasa song. She describe favorite foods all with seafood, including ceviche. She was just darling and we had a great time with our very authentic guest.
We looked up salsa online and learned a little step or two of how to salsa.
Speaking of dance, Katie and I did day 2 of Cize. Getting groovy. Proud of us.
Field trip to the fields for some ball "kicking"
For writing the kids wrote about what they learned from Sister Rosado.
