MONDAY, October 19th
M is for monsters. We did this straw blowing paint project and stuck on eyeballs. Then we read the Monster Mash book and did the dance. We also read the Monster at the End of This Book. (Benson also watched Monster's Inc during screen time.)
We read Esperanza Rising and assigned a personal narrative writing assignment
TUESDAY, October 20th
M is for Magnetic Meteorite Slime!
We were having so much fun and scientific goodness with the meteorite slime that we just skipped our world study altogether for that day.
WEDNESDAY, Oct. 21
M is for muffins. Katie was waiting (sort of) patiently for this day because she was anxious to eat the muffins I bought at Costco on Monday. Benson and I read if you give a Moose a Muffin. Then we did this sequencing activity and a lowercase to uppercase letter matching game I made with Muffin tops and bottoms. He did surprisingly well on the sequencing. He liked glueing the pieces on. He does not have any interest in coloring.
We made this tasty edible igneous rock out of chocolate chips. Yummy rocks. Ally and Eliza did it all by theirselves.
Benson has been really into "paint facing". This time Ally did it. He wanted water and fire. I thought it looked pretty cool.
THURSDAY, Oct. 22
Brazil day. We watched some vids about Brazil and as fate would have it we were gathered around the table talking Brazil when Phil came up to eat lunch so he shared with us some tidbits.
Liked: the friendly, beautiful people and the food
Disliked: fleas, stray dogs, foot worms, non-climate controlled homes, seeing poor children in sad conditions
Taught us a few good portuguese words like thank you, i love you, my name is, and little short fatty (his nickname) they all got a kick out of that one!
It was fun to have an expert on hand just in time. We also learned to do a basic Samba for our dance lesson.
The kids learned and memorized this poem and recited it. We made vids of them but since I don't know how to upload vids here I'll type it...
All the water in the world

FRIDAY, Oct. 23
We were supposed to go to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science but an overnight frosty mist made the roads too slick for me to dare drive all the way downtown. (Or out of our driveway for that matter.) So we let the girls play Prodigy for math games, and do a drip art pumpkin painting for art, play with friends, Ben, Eliza and I played in the hot tub for a long time. It was just a snuggly do whatever you please sort of Friday.
They did turn in their personal narratives and did well on that. Ally wrote about moving to Colorado, Eliza about going to Hawaii, Sam about going from 1st grade midyear to homeschool connection. It was so interesting to read these experiences from their perspectives. Love my little writers. :)
