Week 16 Homeschool - December 1-5

Coming off a free week of doing whatever we pleased for the week of Thanksgiving it was a bit of a challenge to go back to homeschooling. We decided to shake up the regular schedule for December and make a new simplified plan. I said "We are going to do the 3 R's this month, reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. Ally got a little nervous that someone who didn't know how to spell properly was her teacher, hahaha.

They named our December school "Elf Academy"

Eliza also wanted to learn about constellations so we are doing that this month as well.

Although our music lesson are paused for December since their teacher is higher risk, we are learning some Christmas duets. I'm excited about that!

I've been getting our writing assignments from the light the world calendar. The girls did beautiful writing about who demonstrates Christlike love. Sam and Eliza wrote about their Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Beckfield who is just the best ever. And Ally surprised me with a tribute to her mom. I was pretty much convinced she hated me these days so that was a sweet surprise and tender mercy. Teens can be tricky!

We began this read aloud. It is like Little House on the Prairie, but with a fantasy twist. It has been a fun read and we are getting some grammar lessons from it based on the Bravewriter Unit Study.

Everyone is continuing their math studies. Sam has almost completed part 1 of The Good and the Beautiful 3rd grade math. Eliza is progressing nicely with Beast Academy and we just caved and bought Ally her own account on Beast Academy as that was a little clearer for her to understand than the Khan Academy online learning. I've been impressed with the higher level thinking and fun problem solving puzzles the Beast Academy provides. Really effective and fun approach.

FRIDAY

Dutch Christmas History

Phil subbed in the morning as it was his day off work and Katie and I had doctor appointments. He showed them science videos about oil drilling, orion project, and the package thief glitter bomb by Mark Rober.

We colored Dutch Christmas pages grandma sent while doing our read aloud. We read the history of Sinter klass day and put out or shoes for a little present from sinterklass. They found solid chocolate gingerbread men the next morning in their shoes.
