"Prairie Thief" finished book and had celebrations
Chose more difficult words from the book and the girls looked up definitions and wrote their own sentences using the new words.
Sam learned about using quotation marks in writing when someone is speaking. We practiced writing made up sentences inspired by the book to utilize this new skill.
CELEBRATION
Created a little Underground house out of the laundry room. Put items like a ladle and clock and yarn like in the book. And nutella in honor of the Hazelnut Grove. Also a little gnome greets them as they crawl through the hole. :)
Taught about Longfellow, and read the following poems, and told history of "I heard the Bells on Christmas Day"
Cut up words from the Longfellow poem of "Evangeline" (Louisa read it to the family in the story) and the kids made their own poems out of the words.
Learned to play tiddlywinks like Mr. O'Gorsebush
SCIENCE
Learned more constellations and found them in night sky... sirius, big dipper, orion, leo
Learned about cluster stars, galaxies, nebula, and where some are in our night sky.
