centers?

I like the idea of 'learning centers' used in the traditional classroom. I'm trying to think how I could get these to work in a homeschool? Would be great for encouraging independent practice with spelling, reading and handwriting- the language arts stuff.

I'll ponder more on the reading centers idea later...

I Didn't want to forget this idea though:
One way to store your learning centers is to put them in gallon-sized ziplock bags. Then hang a clothesline in the corner of your room and hang each bag with clothespins on the line. (Good way to plan ahead activities!)

Thoughts on: Where to school?

General online consenses regarding homeschool rooms: They only get used for storage and everyone ends up 'schooling' on the couch and around the kitchen table. - With that in mind, I'm rethinking my 'school room' plans.

I'm going to hang up our alphabet in the kitchen, the side that you can't see from the living room. And I'm going to put the maps and posters that I've been collecting (and looking for a wall to hang them on) under our plastic tablecloth in the kitchen. It'll be so fun to spill our breakfast on a map! But I think I'll still put up the timeline as a border in Matty's bedroom and keep the maps up in his room that we already have there. His room can be History home base.

If only we could fit a bookcase in our breakfast nook for notebooks, supplies, and curriculum? That would be so much more covenient. hmmmm. How can we school on the kitchen table?! its always grodoburgers!
