Week 2/3 Homeschool 2020-21

Starting the first week of school with surgery and week two on bed rest wasn't how I planned for my beginning of the school year to go when I figured it all out this summer but it worked out just fine.

Matt filled in as substitute teacher for Science and taught about density, solubility and salt water/fresh water to go with our talk of oceans. Kids learned all the names of the oceans.

First stop on our world tour... Oceania - the Pacific Islands

Eliza got the hang of really shaking her skirt from our youtube Hula lessons.

Aloooooooha, Ally.

Sometimes preschool is more fun then reg school so Sam did C is for confetti craft with Benson.
We also made chocolate cupcakes after reading Give a Cat a Cupcake, and also the The Very Hungry Caterpillar, we had some chocolate cat crackers from Trader Joe's too for treats.

Noah's Ark by Sam

Eliza's art.

This picture of Jesus was done by request for our ward sister missionaries to share on their Facebook site.

We learned that in Germany they give a cone full of goodies to the kids on their first day of Kindergarten. We thought it would be fun as a surprise for our big kids for the first day of High School. Schooltute was fun to make and paint. Eliza gave Matt's dragon wings.

Nature walks with Benson. He doesn't go very far or very fast, but he has a good time.

The night before high school started Matt had some of his best buddies over for a chillax in the hot tub. Lias, Matt, Aiden, Topi, and Callan

Matt dressed in black for his first night on the job at JJ Madwell's as a server. He made $$$ in tips!

The girls each chose an island from Oceania to learn about. They created reports using google slides, or docs and presented to the class. ;) Sam wrote about Palau.

Ally taught about Fiji.

Eliza learned about Samoa. Our favorite part of Samoa study was a surprise video we received from Grandma Lee and Aunt Trisha Eves of them singing a Samoan song learned from their youth living in Samoa. So cute.

We learned about the many varieties of bark cloth used in the islands and tried to make our own Tapa cloth with paper bags.

Benson rewatched some of his favorite Justin Time Go! episodes about Oceania, including the one where they teach the haka. He does a pretty good haka.

Archery Recess.

Katie pops upstairs every now and again for more than food and stays long enough to get Benson giggling his head off.

Home church lesson on prophets.

Daddy found a pretty hummingbird that knocked himself out on our window. They helped rehabilitate the little guy and we enjoyed getting a closer look and touch of the tiny little guy.

We read aloud the book Understood Betsy. It is a cute book about a little girl who is sickly and dependent who gets sent to cousins on farm and learns to be independent and healthy. We discussed how Setting plays a role in creating dynamic characters. Ally wrote an essay on it.

We created our own dynamic characters with personality types, flaws/weaknesses, and plot plans that would help change the character. Benson was a natural at creating his own vivid characters. ;)

Ally got started on Khan Academy Math, Eliza on Beast Academy Math, and Sam on the Good and the Beautiful Math.

Considering everything it wasn't a bad start. Had a come to Jesus with Ally about attitude, and heard her concerns about what she did and didn't want to participate in with the littles. I think it will all work out.
